Ulrika Islander

Associate professor

Ulrika Islander graduated 2002 from the University of Lund with a MSc degree in Molecular biology. 2007 she received a PhD in Rheumatology at the University of Gothenburg, and 2015 she became Associate professor of Immunology. Her research is funded by the Swedish Research Council and focuses on determining immunological mechanisms involved in the anti-inflammatory and bone-protective effects of estrogen in rheumatoid arthritis. She has been main supervisor of two PhD students in her group (thesis defense 2015 and 2016).
She collaborates with several international and national research groups in immunology, endocrinology and bone physiology, and is also part of the research collaboration center “Center for Bone and Arthritis Research” (www.cbar.gu.se). In 2016 she was awarded an “Excellence Project” grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation as well as the Hasselblad Foundation Award for “continued research qualification of female scientists in natural sciences”. During 2017-2018 she will work as guest researcher at the “Institute of Immunobiology” in St Gallen, Switzerland.
