The challenges of fair assessments in the sickness insurance system - international and Swedish perspectives

Sickness insurance systems are important parts of any welfare state providing economic security for individuals in periods of reduced capacity to work. Increasingly the assessments of capacity to work are professionalized to achieve just and fair decisions on payment. However, individual health problems and suffering do not always fit the assessments used in the evaluation of whether a person has the right to sickness benefits or not. This seminar will focus on the difficulties of fair assessments.
