About Sofia Moverare Skrtic

Associate professor Sofia Movérare-Skrtic’s main focus is to study a previously unknown protein - WNT16 - which has been found to have a specific and very important role for the cortical bone. She is now working intensively to try to understand the mechanisms of action of this protein and how this protein is regulated. Increased knowledge about WNT16 opens new avenues for the specific prevention and treatment of nonvertebral fractures, a substantial unmet medical need.

Sofia Movérare-Skrtic is founded by the Swedish Research Council and in 2015 she was appointed The Novo Nordisk Foundation Excellence Award.

She has also been awarded a 5-year Future Research Leader grant by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research.
