About Liesbeth Vandenput

Liesbeth Vandenput is an Associate Professor in experimental endocrinology at the Institute of Medicine, University of Gothenburg. After receiving her PhD at the KU Leuven, Belgium she moved to Gothenburg in 2005 to study sex steroid metabolism in relation to bone and body composition in population-based Swedish cohort studies. More recently, she focuses on the genetics of bone and sex steroid levels using genome-wide association studies. She has made a significant contribution to the bone research field, with 98peer-reviewed publications and over 9000 citations (September 2019).

Main Research Topics

Clinical studies investigating the importance and causality of circulating sex steroidsfor age-related common diseases such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular diseases.

Preclinical studies to evaluate to role of local sex steroid metabolism within target tissues for tissue-specific sex steroid action.
