Health equity

Health equity is based on the concept of health as a human right. Inequity in health is therefore not the absence of health disparities as such but the absence of disparities that are avoidable and unfair. Hence, no one should be denied the possibility of attaining their highest possible level of health just because they belong to specific groups or social positions. Health equity research focus on 1) identifying population patterns of inequity in health or access to health care, 2) investigating the mechanisms and social determinants of such inequity but also the distribution of these social determinants, and 3) developing and evaluating interventions and policies in relation to the overall goal of health equity.
