Research within Occupational and Environmental Medicine

We have six research groups. You can read short descriptions of them below and you will find more information on projects and researchers by following the links below or in the meny to the left.

Work ability and ergonomics

The research team aims to create sustainable health and work ability through innovative research and to transfer research results into practice.

The research is focused on the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, nerve damage, vibration damage, stress and depressive symptoms. Our research amis at identifying supporting and obstructive elements regarding work with symptoms. One important area for this is recovery at work and leisure time. 

Biomarkers in exhalation air

The research team is developing and validating non-invasive methods for early detection and further investigtion of airway inflammation, especially in the small airways.

Epidemiology and insurance medicine

Lead by: Kjell Torén, professor and chief physician

The research team evaluates the risk of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary heart disease and stroke in relation to occupational and environmental exposure, including psychosocial stress.

Sound/noise environment and health

Lead by: Kerstin Persson Waye, professor

The research team studies how and to what extent human health is affected by the sound in different environments and contexts, taking into account factors such as psycho-acoustics, stress and individual sensitivity. The research aims to prevent the negative impact of noise on sleep and recovery, learning opportunities in schools and preschools, and hearing-related disorders.

In our sound environment lab we are studying which kind of sounds and vibrations that lead to negative impacts on, for example, sleep and learning.

Environmental Health and Toxicology

The reasearch team identifiesy exposures in the surrounding environment and its impact on human health.

Security, organization and leadership

Lead by: Marianne Törner, professor

The research team studies how different aspects of safety is affected by psychological and social factors in intercommunion with the organization and the physical environment in working life.
